Princeps' Fury (Codex Alera, Book 5)

From the New York Times bestselling author of Captain’s Fury and the Dresden Files novels.

Tavi of Calderon, now recognized as Princeps Gaius Octavian and heir to the crown, has achieved a fragile alliance with Alera’s oldest foes, the savage Canim. But when Tavi and his legions guide the Canim safely to their lands, his worst fears are realized.

The dreaded Vord—the enemy of Aleran and Cane alike—have spent the last three years laying waste to the Canim homeland. And when the Alerans are cut off from their ships, they find themselves with no choice but to fight shoulder to shoulder if they are to survive.

For a thousand years, Alera and her furies have withstood every enemy, and survived every foe.

The thousand years are over…

    From Publishers Weekly
Starred Review. The rousing fifth installment of Butcher's military fantasy cycle (after 2007s Captains Fury) finds the land of Alera recovering from Lord Kalaruss rebellion, an invasion by the wolven Canim and a bloody slave revolt. Now a new threat emerges: the all-devouring insectoid Vord, who have learned to control the elemental furies that once protected Alera. Young Tavi of Calderon, recently recognized as the heir to Aleras throne, fights seasickness and interspecies hostilities escorting the Canim invaders back to their homeland, only to negotiate a fragile alliance with them against the Vord. No less powerful than his intense battle scenes, Butchers vivid characterizations, based on ancient Roman Republican ideals, range from duty-honor-country austerity in battle to brilliant peacemaking, noble self-sacrifice and Tavis coming-of-age as a wise Marcus Aurelian ruler. Still loving it!5
A great adventure! Butcher takes us to two locals in the fifth book of the series. Strangly enough, both locations are fighting the SAME enemy. Alot of politics and character development which make for an interesting read especially if your into that sort of thing. Yet, even if your not it is so not in your face that you would become bored with it. For so long Butcher has hidden parts of the story and characters from the reader so that we did not know who or what was the bad guys are even what the good guys had hidden. He even went so far as to leave his own characters in the dark. By this point in the series much has been revealed, and yet the story is so chocked full with action and twist it is difficult to put down. I'm anxious to see what will happen next.

An easy 5 out of 55
Plain and simple, Butcher delivers. The Codex recently skyrocketed to one of my favorite series, and this latest installment is superb. I literally didnt put it down once i picked it up.

A significant improvement over the last book (which is in no way a bad addition), Pincepts Fury is quite literally on the cutting edge of fantasy. With a plot that keep you hooked, and a nonchalance in Butcher's talent, make for a read that will make you think to yourself "Where did the past 2 hours go?"

Easily one of my favorites so far.

    Princeps' Fury(Codex Alera book 5)5
Good story. Did not take forever to comeout like The George R. R. Martin Dragon series or The Robert Jordan Series. Stays true to its central characters and does not go off tangent. Jim Butcher knows what his goal is and achieves it. Good adventure story and does not try to be anything more. Each story can stand alone.
